W.E.T. - Apex
(Frontiers Music SRL – 2025)

(Genre: Melodic Rock)
Melodic Rock supergroup W.E.T. bring us ‘Apex’, their fifth studio release. Robert Sall (Work of Art), Erik Martensson (Eclipse) and Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman) are the main men behind this project. Joined by Magnus Henriksson (Eclipse). Andreas Passmark (Royal Hunt) and Jamie Borger (Talisman/Treat), these six men have certainly come together to showcase their collective quality.
Vocally, the voices of Jeff Scott Soto and Erik Martensson work fantastically together, giving the songs a richness in the vocal performance. Jamie Borger’s drumming is excellent throughout the eleven tracks on the album. Sall, Martensson and Henriksson provide the hook laden, catchy guitar work.
They give these songs so much melody, its just a shame I don’t know who is playing what parts. Andreas Passmark does a commendable job on bass, doing his part to help form the spine of these songs. This is my first time hearing W.E.T. and most of the musicians on hand. Opening track ‘Believer’ has plenty of energy as well as catchy hooks and chorus.
‘What Are We Fighting For’ sees Soto and Martensson exchange vocals seamlessly, as the band provide a well delivered melodic soundboard. ‘Where Are the Heroes Now’ has anthemic energy in the chorus, that you could imagine coming over well live. The track offers great drumming from Jamie Borger.
‘Breaking Up’ has more great guitar and drumming throughout. The groove of ‘Nowhere To Run’ shows the band firing on all cylinders. The main riff and overall catchiness of the song makes it a favourite. ‘Pay Dirt’ is a another catchy, head banging anthem where the chorus just hooks you. The mid-tempo ‘Pleasure & Pain’ has feeling and emotion with its slowed down sound and well delivered lyrics.
Album closer ‘Day By Day’ left me wanting to dive deeper into the collective discographies of these great rockers. Before the album was over, I was ready to hit the play button again. ‘Apex’ lives up to its name, as it is the best album I have reviewed to date in 2025!
