Sour Tusk – Pretty Ugly (E.P.)
(Mammoth Recordings Ltd / Forge Amp – 2020)
Just when you thought it was safe to come out again after lockdown, this gets leashed upon us for all our sins. Yes, it's that Sheffield duo that insult older parents ears and are not other's cup of tea either. Oh well, you can't please everyone can you? Thankfully it won't take up too much of your time, so either endure or enjoy it.
I must say that as soon as I cranked it, I noticed that the production standard had gone up a few rungs with both guys vocals standing out way clearer than their previous releases. The words are fully audible and completely in tune as well – Rudd shut up, you're spoiling Jakes not-so-gentle singing moments with your demented screaming backing bawling! You make enough noise with your over the top beefy distorted drums at the best of times!
Okay, you've heard the cuts before on their 'Turn It Up' album but this comes across more professional with 'Roll With The Punches' on the way to turning your tabs black 'n' blue and 'Pretty Ugly' having way more clarity and balls. The late Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead would definitely be giving 'Ready To Play' a massive thumbs up and a huge smile too. Now what the f*ck is 'Sh*t Biscuit' about? Are they on crack or something? Nope! That's just the way these guys roll – with or without those punches!
Outstanding or is it awful? I'll let you, the listener decide!
10/10
