Last Giant – Let The End Begin
(LOABO / Bring in the Piñata Music– 2020)
The Portland, Oregon based boys are back with their third album who still comprise of Matt Wiles (Drums/Percussion) & RFK Heise (Guitars/Keys/Vocals).
It was recorded and engineered by RFK Heise himself at LOABO HQ and mixed by Paul Malinowski at Massive Studios, while mastering was taken care of by Mike Nolte at Eureka Mastering. Last Giant have this kind of psychedelic feel to them without sounding totally druggified – almost a Led Zeppelin meets Kula Shaker and Inspiral Carpets meets The Farm feel without totally losing that Classic Rock like clutch of overall foundation.
Their unique style is one that you have to get used to as its a bit off-kilter than being straight rock at times but it will get you if you are in that positive relaxed tranquil mood with songs like the opening whirly Cultish 'Kill Your Memory' that has an experiment Black Crowesness in the instrumental solo section and the stabbing and almost spacey dare I say Mancunianesque 'Idiology'.
Then there's the wondrous 'Burn The Wall'; the Beatley 'Dead Shore' or the closing 'Followers' that reminds me of The Rolling Stones 'Miss You' in a weird way if it was done in the 'Goats Head Soup' period with Jimmy Page stepping in on guitar towards the end of it.
A grower with a real authentic sounding avant-gardeness about it that underlines the whole album!
