Landfall - Wide Open Sky
(Frontiers Music SRL - 2024)
(Genre: Melodic Rock)
Landfall are a Brazilian based melodic rock group who are delivering their third studio album ‘Wide Open Sky’. Gui Oliver (Vocals), Marcelo Gelbcke (Guitars), Luis Rocha (Bass) and Felipe Souzza (Drums) are the quartet who deliver what is a very good album. This is a talented group who produce an album full of melodic might across the eleven songs on offer here.
‘Tree of Life’ opens the album and immediately shows what the album has to offer, with nice harmony and melody throughout. Gui Oliver shows he has a good range to his vocals too. ‘SOS’ has a heavier style but still offers plenty of melodic magic. Gelbcke impresses on guitar and Oliver’s vocal soars here. It’s a good two tracks to open the album with.
Track 4 is the first single release ‘Running in Circles’, another good song that pulses with melodic magic. Rocha and Souzza drive the song with their rhythmic power. ‘No Tomorrow’ and ‘A Letter to You’ get to the halfway point of the album, confirming Landfall are a talented quartet.
Both songs give Gelbcke lots of time to shine as he shows his guitar playing prowess. There is hint of Steve Morse circa late 90’s Deep Purple to Gelbcke’s playing on ‘A Letter to You’.
‘Coming Home’ might be my favourite song on the album so far, like the Brazilian football team they are showing off their skill and flair. Like watching a prime Ronaldinho, Landfall have me ‘Intoxicated’ with their melodious style, energy and class.
My favourite song on the album is track 9 ‘Hourglass’. Great guitar work, strong drumming, solid bass rhythm and excellent vocals flow with ease. Title track ‘Wide Open Sky’ closes the album in style with Oliver letting loose on vocals again.
The sky is the limit for this band so if you like melodic rock, then you should really check this album out.
