Eternal Return - Once Only
(Newdog Records – 2021)
Formed around quite a roster of players in the prog fraternity, this international supergroup include at least one instantly recognisable name.
Porcupine Tree bassist, Colin Edwin steers the music somewhere pleasantly different with this six-track debut, which sees him team up with long running US/Venezuelan duo, Dogon Paul Godwin (vocals) and Migel Noya (keys). Ditching the loud electric guitars for a lush clean sound, ambience is strictly the name of the game herein.
Eternal Returns produce bases itself around wind-dusted acoustic guitar and piano arrangements plus a lot of spots also centred on percussion, all of which are placed to total effect. There is almost plenty to please fans of his day act with a scattered array of solos by Estonian maestro, Robert Jürjendal and also some vocal trinkets matchable to Dream Theater in 'The Triggering Town' – Fully! An impressive first try from this such combination of talent.
Just be advised that Once Only might not be enough to absorb it fully.
